There is a Japanese concept called Ikigai – the reason for being, the intersection of what you love, what you are good at, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for. It is the compass that gives meaning to life and work. For me, this philosophy is not just an abstract idea but the foundation of Proximo25 and everything I do.
Understanding Ikigai: A Path to Fulfillment
The concept of Ikigai originates from Japan and describes the intersection of four essential elements: what you love, what you are good at, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for.
It is often depicted as a Venn diagram, where these four areas overlap to create a unique purpose for each individual.
To discover your own Ikigai, the following steps can be helpful:
Self-reflection: Identify your passions and interests. What activities bring you joy and fulfillment?
Assess your skills: Recognize your strengths and talents. What do others appreciate about your abilities?
Understand the world’s needs: Consider what the world or your community requires. How can you contribute positively?
Sustainable livelihood: Find ways to monetize your passion and skills without compromising your values.
Ikigai is not a fixed destination but an ongoing journey influenced by experiences and personal growth. By continuously refining your understanding of these elements, you can align your life and work with a deeper sense of meaning and satisfaction.
The Journey to My Ikigai
The journey to my Ikigai was not a sudden realization but a process of reflection and exploration that continues to evolve.
I remember the moment it became clear to me. For years, I led teams, solved business challenges, and mentored colleagues without realizing that coaching had become an integral part of my leadership style. It was something I did naturally, something I enjoyed—but I never considered it my core strength. However, when I first consciously reflected on my Ikigai, it became clear: coaching (asking the right questions), advising, and supporting others on their growth journey were not just things I was good at—they were my true calling.
This realization was profound for me, even if it might not sound particularly exciting. It made me understand that my path was not just about leadership or business strategy but about empowering people to realize their potential. This moment became an AHA experience in my career and led me to fully embrace consulting, coaching, and sustainable business development. However, defining my Ikigai was only the beginning. Living it and allowing it to evolve over time is an ongoing journey of growth, learning, and adaptation.
The Four Elements of My Ikigai
1. What I Love: People and Businesses
I have always had a deep passion for helping others unlock their potential.
I am passionate about people, personal development, leadership, and entrepreneurship. It excites me when people grow beyond their limits, when projects and businesses develop, and when I can help individuals overcome obstacles.
I don’t just want to grow businesses—I want to improve people’s lives through meaningful work, sustainable growth, and personal transformation.
It fulfills me when someone has an Aha-moment—when they realize what is truly possible. These are the moments I strive to create in my work.
2. What I Am Good At: Listening, Strategy, Growth & Sustainable Business
With decades of experience in corporate leadership and entrepreneurship, I have developed a deep understanding of business strategy, leadership, and sustainable business models.
I recognize potential—whether in people, ideas, or business opportunities—and turn it into concrete, impactful strategies.
My ability to develop clear, structured strategies helps businesses move forward efficiently. Breaking down complex issues into manageable steps is my strength.
I understand the importance of long-term vision and adaptability to help businesses succeed in a changing world.
My approach is holistic—success is not just about financial gain but about enabling people to repeat the process and supporting them in achieving this.
3. What the World Needs: Inspiring, Sustainable Leadership
We live in a rapidly changing world where businesses must think beyond mere profit maximization.
Sustainability, ethical leadership, and human-centered strategies are no longer optional—they are essential. I believe that by fostering responsible and values-driven businesses, we can create a better future.
The world needs more leaders who inspire, act with integrity, and drive real progress—without optimizing at the expense of others. That is why my focus is not just on business success but also on making a positive contribution to society.
I am convinced of the power of community and networks. That’s why I actively engage in my network and beyond—seeing the community grow constantly is simply amazing.
4. What I Can Be Paid For: Consulting, Coaching & Sustainable Business Models
Through Proximo25, I offer consulting and coaching services for companies and entrepreneurs who strive for sustainable growth, strategic clarity, and effective leadership.
My partners and I work with startups, established companies, and individuals to equip them with the right tools, strategies, and insights.
My approach goes beyond traditional consulting—I actively help develop and implement strategies, overcome challenges, and build structures for long-term success.
Additionally, we are open to investing in projects we truly believe in. Over my many years in leadership roles, I have learned one thing—character and the right growth mindset always outweigh knowledge!
My Ikigai in One Sentence
“I inspire people and businesses to unlock their potential, grow sustainably, and shape a better future.”
Bringing Ikigai to Life
Finding your Ikigai is not about chasing success—it is about aligning your life with your values, skills, and passions.
Through Proximo25, I am not only living my own Ikigai but also helping others discover theirs. If you are an entrepreneur, a leader, or someone seeking meaningful development, I invite you to explore this journey with me. Personally, I took a weekend alone to reflect—it was a fascinating experience to spend time focusing only on myself.
Ikigai is not static—it evolves, grows, and deepens with experience. What excites me today may evolve in the future, but the core remains the same: helping people and businesses unlock their full potential and create sustainable impact. One thing is becoming increasingly clear to me—people and businesses are essentially the same because businesses are nothing more than groups of people working toward a shared goal. So, for me, it always comes down to people.
